Kodak Film, Paraphernalia and Accessories

It was bound to happen...  Turn a collector loose, and he soon wanders off the main road and onto other collecting paths. So it was with me. While collecting Nikon mechanical cameras, I decided it would be cool to put some period Kodak accessories on display, too. First it was a roll of Kodachrome film. Next it was a Kodak clock. Then, I discovered those little metal Kodak cans, which were first introduce in 1935. Don't know where it will end, but this page is dedicated to my collection of Kodak paraphernalia and accessories.

We'll start with the banner above. I saw this sign on eBay, but was not able to buy it. The next best thing was to reproduce it it PhotoShop. I printed it at about 18x6 inches, mounted it on foam board, and hung it in the NikkorMAN Cave, right under my collection of ALF's and Sock Monkeys! For those keeping score, the yellow shelf came from our original nursery, some 23 years ago.

Metal Kodak Film Canisters

Way back in 1934, Kodak released film in the 135 format that we now affectionately refer to as 35mm.  By 1935, Kodachrome color slide film was released in this format, and is touted (at least by Kodak) as the first commercially successful amateur color film. The photo below shows an original roll of Kodachrome film, as it was packaged at the time. Note the push-on chrome canister near the center. This marks the first appearance of the metal 135 film canister. It took a bit, but I was able to track down one of the original canisters for my collection (shown on the right).  This, of course, was just the beginning. At last count, I've seen at least 30 color combinations, in countless varieties. I've glommed quite and number of them, and hope to post photos soon.

An early box of Kodachrome film.

This one had a Panatomic label affixed.

Kodak Clock

One of the neater things I found when scouring for Kodak accessories is the clock shown below. It's about 16" across, and was originally backlit. I've rewired the clock to make it run, but have not redone the lights yet. The clock dates to the late 1960's or early 1970's. There are lots of other Kodak collectibles on the shelf below the clock. There's an old chemical bottle, several rolls of vintage film, and a pair of glass beakers. The sign is an PhotoShop creation to liven up the room a bit. BTW - I'm an ever frustrated Kansas City Royals fan, too. The clock and shelf are over the door to my office at the house.
