Restoration and Preservation
Some cameras are well preserved, while others are a step away from becoming boat anchors. My goal is to make each camera I acquire better than before. At the very least, this usually means replacing the foam seals. This is an easy task, and costs about $1 per camera to do. New foam ensures the camera is light tight, and, if all else is in order, is ready for taking photographs. Other times, there is a lot more with the camera, and, if beyond my patience or ability, it's cleaned up and prepared for display. When neither of these options is viable, the camera may become a parts source.
This page contains links to some of my soirees into the field of restoration and preservation. Keep in mind, I am an amateur, but am willing to work on becoming better at salvaging some of these beauties. Click a link to see what I'm working on.

Lacquer-Stik for Letter Restoration
Here's an example of how well Lacquer-Stik works on repainting the lettering on black camera. The top photo is obviously before any cleaning, while the bottom shows new, white letters. A little haze was left on the camera body, but wiped away cleanly after letting it sit for a while. Laqcuer-Stik is available from Micro-Tools, for less than $2 per stick. |
